2025 Audi A5 and S5 Receive Upgraded Technology Features

The next-generation A5 Sportback, redesigned on a new platform, will feature a large screen and may include a dimming sunroof.

The redesigned 2025 Audi A5 and S5 adopt the Premium Platform Combustion architecture, the same foundation that underpins the latest Audi Q5 crossover.

The biggest update for Audi’s popular sedans is inside the cabin, where a large, integrated array of screens dominates the dashboard—nearly identical to the setup in the Q5.

The 2025 Audi A5 is now available, with a starting price of $50,995.

It’s no surprise that updates from the Q5 and SQ5 are making their way to the sedan lineup. The 2025 Audi A5 and S5 borrow heavily from their crossover counterparts, bringing those advancements to Audi’s midsize executive sedans and pushing them confidently into the future.

Mirroring their Q5 and SQ5 platform mates, the 2025 Audi A5 and S5 come equipped with familiar powertrains: a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four in the A5, producing 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, and a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 in the S5, delivering an impressive 362 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque.

Like their crossover counterparts, both the A5 and S5 channel power through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending it to all four wheels via Audi’s standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

The A5’s 2.0-liter engine delivers the same mild-mannered—if somewhat uninspiring—tune as its larger Q5 sibling. However, thanks to a roughly 200-pound weight advantage over the crossover, the A5 feels noticeably livelier, giving its sole powertrain a bit more punch on the road.

Still, it doesn’t deliver the same level of excitement you might find in other vehicles that share this basic engine architecture.

The S5, on the other hand, brings the attitude you expect from an S-badged Audi. Its 3.0-liter V6 comes alive in Dynamic mode, growling through the exhaust and making it clear you’re behind the wheel of the sportier sibling.

Power delivery from the turbocharged V6 is brisk without being overwhelming, and the throttle is responsive enough to let your right foot modulate the surge with ease. As in the SQ5, the dual-clutch transmission manages the engine’s output smoothly, while the Quattro all-wheel-drive system ensures that power reaches the pavement efficiently.

In essence, the 2025 Audi A5 and S5 drive much like their larger crossover siblings, but the sedan body grants them an edge. Thanks to reduced weight and a lower center of gravity, both models offer sharper handling and greater agility than their Q5 and SQ5 counterparts.

Steering in the 2025 Audi A5 is light and somewhat numb, but it remains responsive on-center, making for easy, confident cornering. The front end follows through turns with minimal effort. The S5 benefits further from optional Bridgestone Potenza tires, which enhance turn-in precision. Both models share a progressive steering rack, contributing to predictable and composed handling.

Updates inject new life into two of Audi’s key models, offering consumers enhanced technology and features.

The most significant update for Audi’s high-volume sedans is inside the cabin, where a large array of screens dominates the dashboard—nearly identical to the setup in the Q5.

The screen setup performs smoothly. The 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster provides all the essential information for your drive, while the adjacent 14.5-inch multimedia display effortlessly manages entertainment like podcasts.

One downside is the climate controls, which are now integrated into the media screen. Removing physical knobs and switches makes the interior less intuitive at first, but with some use, most drivers will likely adapt to the touch-based system.

One of the standout tech features inside the 2025 Audi A5 cabin is the dimmable panoramic sunroof—reminiscent of the system found on the Porsche Taycan, though with a simpler feature set.

The sunroof offers flexible dimming options, allowing you to shade the front or rear seats, the entire roof, or even striped sections. While the striped dimming may feel more like a novelty, the ability to dim specific sections can be handy for passengers with different preferences on cabin light.

This updated interior is housed within a slightly larger body than before. Audi has stretched the A5 and S5 by 2.5 inches, bringing the total length to 190.1 inches.

For those curious, the wheelbase has been extended by 2.6 inches, now measuring 113.8 inches between the axles. Other dimensional updates include a half-inch increase in width, bringing it to 73.2 inches, and an added 1.6 inches in height, for a total of 57.0 inches.

The added length, combined with the extended wheelbase, creates more rear passenger space. While headroom may still be tight for those over six feet tall, knee room is generous and comfortable.

All in all, much like their important crossover siblings, the updates to the 2025 Audi A5 and S5 don’t reinvent the wheel. Instead, they breathe new life into two of Audi’s key models, offering consumers enhanced technology and features.

The trade-off is the loss of some physical buttons and controls on the dashboard, which may take some getting used to.

According to Audi, the latest A5 and S5 models are already arriving at dealerships. The A5 starts at $50,995, while the S5 commands a base price of $63,995. That $13,000 jump for the S5 badge might be a tough sell for some, but the added performance could well justify the premium.
