What We Think
Our 2019 Car of the Year remains a compelling option among luxury compact sedans in 2024. Even if the Genesis G70 lacks the badge cachet of certain competitors, it has many other appealing attributes.
How it drives is key among those. Genesis did a great job of mixing luxury and sport in the G70, letting the car suit its driver’s mood by being smooth and subdued at one moment, and impressively athletic the next—simply flick the drive mode switch to choose. The new Brembo brakes fitted as standard on all 2024 G70 models do a great job of reining in the new 2.5-liter base engine’s power. In any state the cabin looks lovely and feels very high quality, although the G70’s tech features aren’t the most cutting-edge in the industry.
Value is another strong suit for the G70. Between its upscale materials and useful driver assist features, it comes with plenty of content that’s optional on some of its rivals. Factor in its sophisticated exterior design, too, and the G70 shows how it isn’t cheap, even if it’s inexpensive relative to other vehicles in the segment. In 2024, the car that put Genesis on the map keeps it on a roll.
Design and Exterior
The exterior of the 2024 Genesis G70 has undergone subtle updates that enhance its already striking design. The sleek lines and athletic stance give the car an aggressive yet sophisticated appearance. The front grille features a more pronounced and refined design, along with sharp LED headlights and a sculpted hood, ensuring the G70 grabs attention on the road. The rear end boasts a bold design with twin exhaust tips, providing a balanced and dynamic look.
Performance and Powertrain Options
Under the hood, the 2024 Genesis G70 offers two powerful engine options, both of which deliver impressive performance. The base 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine provides a solid 252 horsepower, offering a great mix of fuel efficiency and power. For those looking for more performance, the 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine cranks out an impressive 365 horsepower, making the G70 a thrilling sports sedan.
Both engines come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth and responsive shifts. The G70’s rear-wheel-drive layout comes standard, while all-wheel drive is available for those seeking better handling and traction in various road conditions.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the 2024 Genesis G70 combines luxury materials and advanced technology. The cabin is crafted with premium leather upholstery, wood trim, and soft-touch materials, creating a refined atmosphere. The front seats are comfortable, with an array of adjustments to cater to various body types, ensuring a perfect driving position.
The centerpiece of the G70’s tech offerings is its 10.25-inch touchscreen display, which runs the latest version of Genesis’ infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, allowing for seamless smartphone integration. The available 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides drivers with customizable displays that include navigation, performance data, and safety features.
Safety Features
The 2024 Genesis G70 is equipped with a host of safety features designed to keep drivers and passengers safe. Standard safety tech includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. The G70 also offers optional features like a surround-view camera system, adaptive cruise control, and a heads-up display.
Cargo Space and Interior Room
Although legroom in the G70’s cabin is comparable to that of its segment competitors, its trunk is quite a bit smaller.

Technology
Every 2024 Genesis G70 comes equipped with a 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in navigation. There’s a reconfigurable 8.0-inch digital gauge display, and a head-up display is optionally available. For 2024, the HVAC control panel also becomes a small touchscreen. This year, the USB ports change to Type-C, but a wireless charging pad remains standard only on higher trims. Those higher trims also get a Lexicon premium audio system. Phone-as-key functionality expands to more trim levels.
Recommended Trim
Even though the new I-4 base engine promises improved performance, we’d stick with a G70 equipped with the V-6, referred to by Genesis as the 3.3T. It’s a great powerplant, providing strong acceleration without a terrible penalty to fuel economy. Furthermore, its starting price—slightly more than $45,000—is about the same as some I-4-powered European competitors, advancing the G70 3.3T’s value appeal.
