XPeng P7 Embarrasses Porsche Taycan And Mercedes CLA With New Record
"In its latest endurance test, the Xpeng P7 outperformed both German electric sedans by a significant margin."

Back in 2019, the Porsche Taycan made headlines by completing a 24-hour endurance run at Italy’s Nardo high-speed test track, covering 2,128 miles in a single day—even before its global debut. Earlier this year, the Mercedes-Benz CLA topped that achievement with a 2,309-mile run before its own debut. Now, a new challenger has overtaken them both: the XPeng P7.
The XPeng P7, an electric sedan sold in China and positioned against rivals like the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, has set a new benchmark. In a 24-hour endurance test, the P7 covered 2,461 miles, surpassing both German sedans. It also broke China’s previous record, held by the Xiaomi YU7 Max electric SUV, which had logged 2,451 miles.
Definitely No Cakewalk for These Automakers
While not as flashy as records like the Nürburgring lap times set by the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, a 24-hour endurance run is far from easy. The vehicles had to circle the track nonstop for an entire day, stopping only for ultra-fast charging and driver swaps. On top of that, they maintained a high average speed of 131 mph throughout the test.
The test is meant to evaluate both the sustained performance and charging efficiency of EVs. While these vehicles are already celebrated for their instant, thrilling acceleration, they also need to consistently deliver those impressive numbers over extended periods. According to CarNewsChina, XPeng chairman He Xiaopeng took on the challenge after Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun dared him to put the new EV through this grueling 24-hour trial and prove its on-road capabilities.
From Endurance to Longest-Range Challenge
The XPeng P7 is built for feats like these. Its 800V high-voltage architecture allows it to gain up to 326 miles of range in just 10 minutes. The sedan itself boasts a CLTC-rated range of up to 510 miles. Performance-wise, the P7 can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under three seconds and reach a top speed of 143 mph. Announced last week, the P7 has already begun accepting pre-orders ahead of its official launch this month.
In related EV news, another intense battle has emerged. Just days ago, the Polestar 3 claimed the Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by an electric SUV on a single charge—coming only a month after Lucid set the same record with the Air Grand Touring. Perhaps it’s only a matter of time before Chinese EVs step in to stake their own range records.
