This Art-Inspired McLaren Will Leave Half the Crowd Green with Envy

Miami Art Week has arrived, and McLaren is already delivering the excitement.

Miami Art Week is in full swing, which means it’s time for another round of bold, artistic automotive creations—complete with a touch of showmanship. This year, McLaren is adding to the spectacle with the debut of Project Chromology, a collaboration with artist Nat Bowen, known for her vibrant resin artworks and her exploration of chromology, the psychology of color.

For this project, McLaren Special Operations (MSO) partnered with Bowen to develop a multilayered paint technique exclusively for the McLaren 750S. Only a select group of MSO clients will be able to commission a Project Chromology–themed 750S, and each buyer will also receive an original Nat Bowen artwork created specifically for the commission.

Technology Meets Art—and a Bit of Alchemy

McLaren says each color palette is created through a carefully controlled layering process designed to evoke a specific emotional response. The goal is to showcase individuality through the visual depth and material execution of the 750S. These finishes use multiple translucent layers that change in depth and tone depending on the light. McLaren even describes the effect as having “tactile dimensionality,” insisting it’s something you can both see and feel.

One of Bowen’s recurring themes is the influence of color on mood and identity. It’s the same principle behind hospitals choosing calming pale greens or corporations gravitating toward trust-evoking shades of blue. Even this webpage uses deeper reds to guide your eyes without triggering the urgency associated with bright red. Bowen’s approach, however, aims for something far more nuanced and layered than these everyday examples.

“Color is emotion – it’s how we express who we are and how we connect with the world around us. Collaborating with McLaren has allowed that exploration to move beyond the canvas – transforming color psychology into a living experience. Together, we’ve created something that fuses art, psychology, and performance in a way that feels both personal and powerful.”

Based on the photos alone, the technique paired with Bowen’s artwork looks remarkably effective. Even in two-dimensional images, the paint’s depth and intricate patterns come through clearly, while the green-and-blue palette feels organic—radiating a mix of bold presence and serene energy. Of course, your own interpretation may vary, and we imagine the effect would take on an entirely different character when seen cruising through the streets of Miami.

With Project Chromology, we’ve transformed an artist’s creative process into a new visual language for McLaren,” said Jonathan Simms, director of McLaren Special Operations. “The Chromatic Layered Finish introduces an unprecedented level of depth, tactility, and material complexity to our paintwork, demonstrating just how far we can push color and texture as design tools. It represents the essence of MSO—continually expanding the boundaries of bespoke craftsmanship and enabling clients to express their identity through the form and finish of their McLaren.”

On the 750S

The 750S—like most modern McLarens with their sweeping lines and sculpted curves—makes an ideal canvas for an expressive, high-end finish. To complement the Project Chromology treatment, McLaren has also created bespoke 24-carat, hallmarked gold-plated badges. These emblems are designed so the backing color can be precisely matched to the central tone of the paint, and they’re placed on the front, rear, and sides of the car.

As for pricing, a Project Chromology–specified 750S won’t come cheap. Interested buyers will need to contact McLaren MSO directly to commission one.
