Range Rover Latest Six-Figure Problem Could Hit Owners Hard

More than 120,000 SUVs recalled over suspension defects that may fail without warning.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a new recall affecting more than 120,000 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs over potentially defective suspension components. The issue first came to light through Transport Canada, which flagged the defect in vehicles sold north of the border. Initially thought to be a problem limited to Canadian models, further investigation revealed that US-market vehicles—built at the same factory—are also at risk.

The recall mandates a full inspection of all affected vehicles, encompassing 54,720 units of the 2014–2017 Range Rover and 66,789 units of the 2014–2017 Range Rover Sport. In total, 121,509 SUVs are impacted.

Details of the Suspension Issue

The recall affects certain 2014 model-year SUVs as well as all 2015–2017 models. These vehicles were built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull Assembly Plant in the UK between October 1, 2014, and November 10, 2017, and were later shipped to the U.S. and Canada. According to the recall notice, an investigation found that “the front suspension upper knuckle joint could develop a crack,” which in some cases may result in the “detachment of the upper suspension arm.”

Any unexpected detachment of suspension components poses a serious safety risk. In this instance, a detached upper suspension arm could potentially result in a crash.

The report notes that, for reasons yet unclear, the problem seems to be more common in Canadian vehicles. So far, no injuries have been reported in connection with this issue. Jaguar Land Rover, the parent company of the Range Rover brand, investigated the matter and notified the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in May 2025. The recommended fix will involve a thorough inspection by a certified JLR technician.

How Land Rover Plans to Address the Issue

Both front suspension knuckles will undergo inspection for any signs of cracking. If no damage is found, a new retaining bracket will be installed on the joint. However, if a crack or other damage is detected, the affected component will be replaced free of charge. Jaguar Land Rover notes that components in 2018 model-year vehicles are not expected to have the same issue. A total of 20 related components are identified for the recalled model years, all listed as “front suspension knuckle,” likely reflecting different supplier batches over time.

The new recall also highlights a related, smaller issue affecting the same Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models. This earlier problem, which impacted U.S. vehicles, remained unresolved but is now included in the broader recall. Jaguar Land Rover will notify owners by mail, with letters detailing the recall and required actions expected to arrive by the end of September.
