Jeep Wrangler New Carbon Fiber Rooftop Tent Concept Creates the Ultimate Mobile Hotel

Jeep showcased a bold new rooftop tent and awning system at the 2025 Overland Expo West.

For enthusiasts of the overlanding lifestyle, having a rooftop tent and a fold-out awning is essential—especially for those who prefer not to tow a camper. Although both items are familiar to Jeep owners individually, Dometic and Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar have teamed up to develop a unique solution that combines them into one integrated system. This new setup is specifically designed to fit the current JL-generation Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (the four-door model) perfectly.

Shown here is the ARTT concept mounted on the 2025 Easter Jeep Safari Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser Concept, showcased at the 2025 Overland Expo West held in Flagstaff, Arizona.

It’s one of those innovations that makes you wonder why no one thought of it sooner. While rooftop tents and awnings that mount separately on the Jeep Wrangler have been common for years—long before overlanding exploded in popularity—the concept of combining both into a single system is fresher. What makes this setup stand out is how it mounts directly to the roll cage and hardtop roof, eliminating the need for a bulky roof rack. Plus, the awning extends to cover both the driver’s side and rear of the Wrangler Unlimited, which is why it’s called the “ARTT” — short for Awning and RoofTop Tent.

The entire system is enclosed within a sleek carbon fiber aerodynamic shell that protects all components. This shell pivots on hinges located on the driver’s side, utilizing Dometic’s AIR Frame Inflation system to open up and reveal the rooftop tent, which comfortably fits a queen-sized mattress. The opposite half of the tent swings out toward the passenger side and features a ladder for easy access from outside the Jeep.

However, using the tent isn’t mandatory—this brings us to another standout feature of the ARTT: an interior access port that allows entry to the tent directly through the Wrangler’s cabin by removing the hardtop’s “Freedom Panels.” While this concept isn’t entirely new, the ARTT enhances it with a carbon fiber step that sits atop the center console, making it easier to climb into the tent and protecting the console from wear and tear.

The awning deploys using Dometic’s AIR Frame Inflation system, swinging a full 270 degrees from its driver’s side cover that lifts up and away. When fully extended, it provides shade that wraps around to the rear of the Wrangler. The support arms are equipped with LED lighting, and the awning is additionally secured by a cable anchored to the Wrangler’s hood. Even when the awning is fully opened, the tailgate and lift window remain fully accessible for easy entry to the rear cargo area.

The storage boxes replacing the rear quarter windows on this Wrangler 4xe Sunchaser Concept aren’t part of the ARTT system. However, they demonstrate that a fully accessorized Wrangler can easily accommodate this integrated setup without any issues.

The Dometic and JPP ARTT System remains a concept for now, but it feels very practical and ready for real-world use. It would be disappointing if this innovative integrated rooftop tent and awning didn’t make it into the official JPP lineup, given its clear appeal and convenience. Hopefully, we’ll hear more details when the 2025 SEMA Show arrives.
