Honda Civic Type R Gets a Show-Stopping Goodbye Gift
As Honda retires its sporty hatchback from the European market, the automaker has shared a list of the most thrilling roads to enjoy one final drive.

Honda is sending off its European fans with a special parting gift: an interactive map highlighting the continent’s most exhilarating driving routes.
Dubbed Honda Dream Drives, the initiative celebrates the end of nearly three decades of Honda Civic Type R sales in Europe—a farewell prompted by the region’s tightening emissions regulations.
Featuring over 120 routes across 25 countries, contributed by Honda Civic Type R owners, enthusiasts, and automotive journalists, the list is now live online, ready to guide drivers along some of Europe’s most thrilling roads.
Honda says the curated atlas is designed to keep the “joy of driving” alive. Users can explore the map by country, terrain, or theme—whether mountain, coastal, scenic, or cross-country—and can even access routes directly through Google Maps or their smartphone navigation apps.
Some of the featured routes are well-known favorites among driving enthusiasts, while others are hidden local gems cherished by those who live nearby. Together, they celebrate not just the thrill of the drive, but the legacy of the Honda Civic Type R itself.
A snapshot of the featured routes:
-
Great St. Bernard Pass, Switzerland — A dramatic Alpine route connecting Switzerland and Italy.
-
German Alpine Road, Germany — Nearly 300 miles winding through meadows, peaks, and forests.
-
Vršič Pass, Slovenia — Renowned for its 50 hairpin bends and stunning views of the Soča Valley.
-
Col de Turini, France — A famed Monte Carlo Rally stage featuring 34 twists and turns.
-
Passo dello Stelvio, Italy — A legendary 200-year-old route celebrated for its Giro d’Italia history.
The Honda Civic Type R lineage began in 1992 with the NSX Type R, but it was the Integra Type R in 1997 and the Civic Type R in 2001 that cemented the badge’s reputation in Europe. Over five generations and more than 70,000 units sold, the Civic Type R became the benchmark for hot hatches, even setting lap records at iconic circuits such as Spa, Silverstone, and the Nürburgring.
Now, as the final Honda Civic Type R depart European showrooms, Honda leaves behind a digital roadbook for enthusiasts, inviting them to keep chasing apexes—no matter what car they drive.
