Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 272,645 F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and Maverick vehicles. According to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain vehicles may have a faulty integrated park module that fails to engage the Park position properly. This defect means the vehicles do not meet federal safety standards for Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention.
According to Ford filings with the NHTSA, the problem is caused by the integrated park module pawl binding against a slider component, preventing the Park position from fully engaging. The automaker traced the issue to variations in the manufacturing process and potential material defects that create extra friction where the two parts meet.
Owners may notice the issue through dashboard warning lights or if the Park indicator fails to illuminate. Ford emphasizes that the parking brake should engage automatically even when Park is not fully locked, though any problem with the parking brake could increase safety risks. The recall affects 80,468 Mavericks (model years 2025–2026), 104,113 F-150 Lightning (2022–2026), and 88,064 Mustang Mach-E (2024–2026).
Ford will address the issue through its over-the-air update system. Owners also have the option to schedule an in-person repair at a dealership, with no cost for either method. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to affected customers on February 2, and Ford will send a follow-up notice later in the month when the final fix is ready. For more information, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or use the NHTSA recall search tool, which will list this recall starting January 26.
