2026 GMC Hummer EV Will Be Quicker And Crabbier Than Ever

With over 9,000 pounds of mass, this truck’s acceleration was already impressive — recent updates have made it even quicker.

Although the GMC Hummer EV trades the gas-guzzling V-8 of the early-2000s Hummer H2 for electric motors, its identity remains unmistakably bold and unapologetically oversized. For 2026, GMC is leaning even further into that outrageous Hummer persona by introducing a host of new updates. Still offered in both pickup and SUV form, the 2026 GMC Hummer EV now boasts a rugged King Crab off-road mode, a flashy Carbon Fiber Edition, and the addition of bidirectional charging functionality.

You’ve probably caught GMC’s “Push the Button” commercials featuring Crab Walk mode, where the Hummer EV and Sierra EV use rear-wheel steering to move diagonally at low speeds. Building on this technology, GMC is now introducing King Crab mode, which aims to enhance off-road agility even further.

King Crab mode causes the rear wheels to spin noticeably faster than the front wheels, which GMC claims provides “greater maneuverability when navigating tight off-road spaces.” While it’s unclear if any other modifications were made to develop this drive mode, GMC describes it as primarily “software-enabled.” Later this year, owners of 2022 to 2025 Hummer EVs will be able to access King Crab mode through an over-the-air update.

For 2026, GMC introduces the Carbon Fiber Edition for both Hummer body styles, exclusively available on the EV3X trim. This special edition features unique Magnus Gray Matte paint and a striking Velocity Ember interior. It also comes equipped with all-terrain tires and blacked-out emblems, while the pickup model adds a sleek black power tonneau cover. True to its name, GMC applies carbon-fiber trim sparingly, using the lightweight material on the distinctive 22-inch wheels, side mirrors, and skid plate.

The Carbon Fiber Edition is expected to be the fastest Hummer EV to date, with GMC claiming a zero-to-60 mph time of just 2.8 seconds. This is half a second quicker than the Hummer EV pickup we previously tested, while the SUV version was about a tenth of a second slower. GMC attributes this performance boost to optimized software and recalibrated hardware. Production of the Carbon Fiber Edition will be limited, although GMC has not disclosed the exact number of units planned.

The Granite Drift exterior color, seen here, is new for 2026.

In addition to its bold new features, the 2026 Hummer EV gains a practical upgrade with bidirectional charging, enabling it to transfer power to another compatible vehicle or to a home during a blackout. GMC also improved the Super Cruise hands-free driver-assistance system—its automatic lane-change function can now coordinate with your route when using the Hummer EV’s built-in navigation.

GMC also tuned the Hummer EV’s dampers for a smoother ride and introduced two new exterior paint options—Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte along with fresh interior color choices, Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse. Production of the 2026 Hummer EV is set to begin later this year, though pricing hasn’t been announced yet. Expect a slight increase from the 2025 model’s starting price of $99,045.
