Maserati Dismisses Ongoing Rumors of a Sale

"Amid renewed speculation that Stellantis may put Maserati up for sale, the Italian automaker maintains that it has no plans to leave."

Rumors are heating up once more, with reports suggesting that automotive giant Stellantis is exploring the sale of some of its Italian brands to investors in the United Arab Emirates. According to the financial weekly Moneta, Stellantis is reportedly seeking potential buyers for both Maserati and Alfa Romeo, including the Italian factories that produce the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, as well as the Maserati Grecale. The move is seen as an effort to generate funds to help keep the rest of the automaker financially stable.

Maserati Denies Sale Rumors Once Again

We contacted the automaker for comment, and a Maserati representative was quick to dismiss the speculation. Echoing the company’s response to similar rumors in June 2025, the Stellantis spokesperson reiterated that neither Maserati nor its sister brand Alfa Romeo is up for sale. The statement was brief but firm: “Alfa Romeo and Maserati are not for sale.”

Despite Maserati’s denial, the rumors continue. Moneta reports—without disclosing its sources—that potential buyers in the United Arab Emirates are mainly interested in acquiring Maserati. The outlet adds that Stellantis would only consider a deal if the prospective Emirati owners also took Alfa Romeo, effectively creating an all-in-one package that includes the Cassino, Italy, assembly plant where both brands’ vehicles are manufactured.

It’s Been a Challenging Year for the Italian Brands

The Cassino facility has seen limited activity, operating only three days a week in September. While most of Stellantis’ brands have enjoyed year-over-year sales gains in the U.S., Alfa Romeo has struggled, posting a 21 percent drop in third-quarter deliveries in 2025 and a year-to-date decline of 30 percent. Maserati, which does not publicly disclose sales figures, appears to be facing similar difficulties, with 2024 sales reportedly taking a significant hit.”

In March, the brands enlisted consulting firm McKinsey & Company to pinpoint areas for improvement—a move that helped spark earlier rumors of a potential sale. Whether McKinsey’s insights will help Stellantis revive its struggling Italian marques remains uncertain. For car enthusiasts, however, the hope is that both brands find their footing soon. After all, the stunning Maserati GranTurismo and the thrilling Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio deserve far more recognition than obscurity.

That said, the sales speculation appears to lack solid evidence, relying mostly on unnamed sources or hearsay. Only time will tell if there’s any truth to it, but if company representatives are accurate, these rumors are likely to remain just that—rumors.
