The Wait Is Over: Tesla Fastest Model Y Release Date Announced

“The long-awaited Tesla Model Y variant is set to debut very soon.”

It’s been eight months since the refreshed Tesla Model Y hit the U.S. market, yet the highly anticipated Performance variant has still not arrived. While Tesla quietly rolled out an “Acceleration Boost” feature that shaves half a second off the 0–60 mph time, the full-fledged Performance trim has remained elusive. The wait won’t last much longer, though—Tesla has already teased the Model Y Performance, and its official launch is just around the corner.

On Tesla’s Europe and Middle East X account, the Texas-based automaker shared a “Spoiler alert” along with an abstract red teaser video—likely hinting at the upcoming Model Y Performance. The 10-second clip concludes with a date: tomorrow, August 29, 2025. Considering the model’s high anticipation and numerous recent sightings, it’s all but certain that this teaser signals the launch of the Model Y Performance.

Model 3 Performance Sets the Benchmark

Details on the Tesla Model Y Performance are still limited, but hints are already emerging. The high-performance version of the world’s best-selling EV in 2025 (though not the best-selling vehicle overall) is expected to mirror the Model 3 Performance, delivering around 510 horsepower and 547 lb-ft of torque through dual electric motors powering all four wheels. Its top speed is anticipated to surpass 125 mph.

By comparison, the previous Tesla Model Y Performance delivers a combined 456 horsepower and 497 lb-ft of torque, propelling it from 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The upcoming “Juniper” version is expected to be even more powerful, likely achieving 0–60 mph in under 3 seconds. While the EPA-estimated range may dip below 300 miles, these figures remain theoretical for now, as Tesla has introduced some battery upgrades on select models.

Nürburgring Sightings Offer Design Hints

Regarding its design, the Model Y “Juniper” Performance will carry over all the updates from the previous Model Y—and then some. Based on its Nürburgring outing in June and other sources, we anticipate features such as 21-inch wheels, an all-black headliner, upgraded brakes, bucket seats, a new carbon-fiber spoiler, Performance badging, adaptive dampers, and redesigned front and rear bumpers.

That said, we should learn more soon if our predictions prove accurate. While Tesla hasn’t announced an exact launch time, we’ll keep you updated the moment it happens. Since the teaser was shared with audiences in Europe and the Middle East, it’s likely the Model Y Performance will debut there first. Hopefully, a U.S. arrival won’t be far behind—Tesla could certainly use a boost right now.
