New Cadillac SUV in China Costs as Little as a Nissan Kicks

In China, the Cadillac XT4 is priced from just above $22,000, with the highest trim reaching approximately $26,300.

  • Chinese customers have the choice between the Cadillac XT4 equipped with a 1.5-liter engine or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder option.
  • Intense competition nationwide forces GM to price the Cadillac XT4 as affordably as possible.
  • Although production has ceased in the US, new 2025 Cadillac XT4 models are still available for purchase locally.

GM officially discontinued the Cadillac XT4 in the U.S. earlier this year in January, but the luxury compact crossover continues to thrive in China. In fact, the 2025 XT4 was recently launched there—and, unsurprisingly, it comes with a significantly lower price tag compared to what American buyers previously faced. Just how much cheaper? In China, the XT4 is priced similarly to an entry-level small SUV.

In China, the XT4 kicks off at just 159,900 yuan—roughly $22,200 based on current exchange rates. By comparison, the starting price for an XT4 in the U.S. is $40,795, nearly double the Chinese price. While the Chinese version is equipped with a smaller 1.5-liter engine and the American model comes standard with a more powerful 2.0-liter engine, the price difference remains strikingly large.

To put this into perspective, GM’s smallest SUV in the U.S., the 2025 Chevrolet Trax, starts at $20,500. The Nissan Kicks isn’t far behind, with a starting price of $21,520. So, American buyers aren’t exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to affordable options either.

In China, buyers seeking extra luxury in their Cadillac XT4 can choose from two higher trim levels. The mid-tier trim begins at 179,900 yuan (around $25,000), while the top-of-the-line model is priced at 189,900 yuan (approximately $26,300). By contrast, the most expensive XT4 in the U.S., the Sport AWD, starts at $45,290.

When it comes to features, the Chinese Cadillac XT4 closely matches its American counterpart, but it offers the option of larger 20-inch wheels. Inside, the cabin boasts the same impressive 33-inch 9K ultra-wide curved display that combines both the digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen. The XT4 also includes heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, with optional upgrades like a heated steering wheel and an AKG audio system equipped with active noise cancellation.

In the Chinese market, buyers can choose between two different engines, unlike the U.S., where only a single 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder was offered, delivering 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque.

The entry-level powertrain in China is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder featuring mild-hybrid 48-volt technology, producing 211 hp and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque. The second option is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, also paired with the 48-volt system, delivering 237 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. Both engines come standard with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
