Mercedes EQE Sedan and SUV Production Set to Conclude in 2026

The electric executive sedan and SUV will soon be phased out, but they will be replaced by new models.

When Mercedes-Benz first unveiled its electric G-Class, it wasn’t labeled the EQG. Instead, it was called the G 580 with EQ Technology—a subtle signal that the automaker is moving away from the potentially confusing EQ naming convention for its EV lineup. This approach is expected to extend to other Mercedes electric vehicles, and we now have a clear idea of which models will be updated first.

HARJA reports that Mercedes-Benz will discontinue the EQE Sedan and EQE SUV in 2026 as part of an “EV lineup realignment.” This decision cancels the planned mid-cycle refresh for these models, which was expected to include enhancements to the EVA platform, such as an 800V architecture, a silicon-carbide inverter, and eATS2 motors. Instead, these upgrades will now be applied to the EQS Sedan and EQS SUV.

Timeline for Interim and Direct Successors

The Mercedes EQE Sedan and EQE SUV will be replaced by new models built on the MB.EA-M platform. According to HARJA, the C-Class with EQ Technology—offering optional air suspension and rear-axle steering and already spotted during public testing—will act as a bridge to the EQE Sedan, with a launch planned for 2026. Meanwhile, the upcoming GLC with EQ Technology will serve as the interim electric SUV, making its debut this month at the Munich Motor Show.

That said, the two EVA-based EVs will be succeeded by models built on the MG.EA-M platform. A direct successor has already been identified: the E-Class with EQ Technology, which is slated to arrive in 2027. Mercedes has begun development, and a company spokesperson confirmed this to HARJA, though they declined to officially confirm the discontinuation of the Mercedes EQE Sedan and EQE SUV, citing a “policy of not commenting on speculation surrounding its current and future models.”

Discontinuation Aims to Allow Retooling

Launched in 2022, the Mercedes EQE Sedan and EQE SUV have seen notable upgrades over time, including larger battery capacities, performance enhancements, and rear-drive decoupling, among other improvements. The EQE Sedan is produced in Germany, while the EQE SUV is assembled at Mercedes’ Tuscaloosa, USA, factory—though production in the U.S. has not yet reached full stability.

The planned end of production for the Mercedes EQE Sedan and EQE SUV will allow for factory retooling and upgrades, preparing for the launch of the E-Class with EQ Technology in 2027. If HARJA’s report proves accurate, further details are likely to emerge in the coming months, but the proposed timeline aligns logically with Mercedes’ overall EV strategy.
