Fiat Enters the Micromobility Scene with a Compact Electric Truck
Four wheels aren’t needed to carry a standard Euro pallet, it turns out.
- Fiat Professional has unveiled the Tris, a compact three-wheeled electric truck powered by a 6.9-kWh battery.
- Fiat’s compact commercial electric vehicle marks the brand’s foray into micromobility, with plans to launch the model in the Middle East and Africa.
- The Tris offers a driving range of 56 miles and can be fully recharged within a few hours using a standard wall outlet, providing small businesses with versatile options for short-distance deliveries.
Europe boasts plenty of cars that car enthusiasts admire but often can’t own. However, it’s rare for one vehicle to check so many boxes at once—covering kei trucks, electrification, micromobility, affordability, scootability, and that unmistakable Fiat charm, to name a few.
This week, the Italian automaker introduced its first three-wheeled vehicle, the aptly named Tris, which joins Fiat’s Professional lineup.
Built on the classic concept of a scooter-based trucklet, the Tris offers a unique blend of nostalgia and innovation. It provides a glimpse into both the past and the future of compact urban EVs, arriving at a pivotal moment for micromobility and delivering a straightforward, valuable solution for small businesses.
Measuring 10.4 feet in length and equipped with a bed spacious enough to hold a standard Euro pallet, the Tris runs on a 6.9-kWh battery that can be fully charged in just 4 hours and 40 minutes using a standard wall outlet.
Delivering 12 horsepower, the Tris can achieve a top speed of 28 mph and offers a driving range of up to 56 miles.
Highway speeds aren’t the focus for the Tris. This compact EV is designed specifically for commercial users in the Middle East and Africa, providing small businesses with a quiet, easy-to-manage trucklet ideal for transporting cargo over short distances.
The Tris potential extends beyond the Middle East and Africa, thanks to its versatility. It can be equipped with various specialized beds and cargo containers, making it ideal for transporting everything from hot meals and frozen treats to live fish.
This versatility gives the Tris strong potential in southern Europe too, where compact commercial vehicles remain a vital part of the market.
“As urban areas expand and the demand for clean, accessible transportation intensifies, we recognized a chance to introduce something radically simple yet deeply practical,” explains FIAT CEO Olivier François.
Despite its compact size, the Tris is packed with modern technology. It comes equipped with a 5.7-inch digital gauge cluster, LED headlights, and an integrated smart charging system. Additionally, it will be compatible with Fiat Professional’s connected services, including vehicle tracking and fleet management software.
More importantly, the Tris represents Fiat’s latest step into the growing realm of electric micromobility—a sector that has gained significant momentum and is now commanding the attention of major traditional automakers.
This tipping point was likely reached with the launch of the Citroën Ami five years ago, but it also includes the booming popularity of electric bikes and scooters.
The Tris isn’t expected to arrive in the US anytime soon—at least not through official channels or at your local Fiat dealership. So, if you’re planning to import a kei truck, don’t call it off just yet. Still, the Tris marks an important first step in a future where compact trucks like this will far outnumber vehicles like the GMC Hummer EV.
