2027 Chevrolet Bolt Unveiled: Your Initial Look

The comeback has been postponed, but those anticipating an affordable electric vehicle still have a promising option on the horizon.

If you’re looking to buy a battery-electric vehicle in the US, the most affordable new option currently is the Nissan Leaf, priced at $28,140 before destination fees. Chevrolet’s competitor in this segment, the Equinox EV, starts higher at $33,600. However, this landscape is set to shift as Chevrolet has officially announced the return of the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV, promising it will be “better than ever.”

There’s one catch, however. The Bolt was originally scheduled to make its comeback this year with the 2026 model year. But amid the limited details in Chevrolet’s teaser announcement, one piece of news might let down budget EV enthusiasts — the Bolt’s return has been pushed back to the 2027 model year.

Looks Familiar but Comes with Key Changes

Only limited information and a few images have been shared so far, revealing that the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt will return with a refreshed front fascia and redesigned rear taillights, along with new black-finished wheels. Additionally, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV will feature the NACS charging port, a move that’s become expected by now. Chevrolet promises to unveil more details in the coming months.

The upcoming Bolt will be a second-generation model built on a new platform formerly known as Ultium. While it shares some similarities with the previous generation, the teaser images reveal noticeable updates: the front-end styling is more subdued, with less exaggerated details, and the hood now features a break unlike the earlier design. The lower bumper adopts a mesh pattern, and the taillights are slimmer than before, accentuated by piano black surrounds.

Popular Choice Among Budget EV Buyers

“You asked, we listened.” Chevrolet is confident about reviving the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, pointing to strong customer demand—and with good reason. Although the Bolt may not be a fan favorite among enthusiasts, it became a popular choice thanks to its affordable price and competitive electric range. In fact, during its final year in 2023, Chevrolet achieved a record-breaking sales milestone, selling over 23,000 Bolt EV units.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt comeback comes at a time when affordable EV options are increasingly rare. To make matters more challenging, the federal tax credit for electric vehicles is set to be phased out later this year, eliminating the opportunity for qualified buyers to save $7,500 on their purchase. With that in mind, Chevrolet will need to price the Bolt carefully to remain competitive and appeal to budget-conscious buyers.

It’s worth noting that the Bolt EV exited Chevrolet’s lineup at the end of 2023, carrying a starting price of $25,600 before taxes, registration, and destination charges.
