2026 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe – Overview

With its sleek, fashionably raked roofline, the 2026 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe offers the sporty appeal of a two-door coupe with the practicality of four full-sized doors. Built on the popular 3-Series platform, the Gran Coupe delivers athletic performance with either four- or six-cylinder engines.

The sloping rear seamlessly hides a liftback trunk lid, making it easier to load bulky cargo than a traditional sedan. Inside, the cabin is packed with premium materials, high-tech displays, and luxury features, though taller passengers may find rear headroom slightly more limited than in the upright 3-Series.

What’s New for 2026 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe?

For 2026, the BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe remains largely unchanged. While its sibling, the 3-Series sedan, is due for a redesign, the Gran Coupe continues with the same styling, features, and powertrains as the previous model year.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The 2026 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe starts at $51,775 and rises to $67,775, depending on trim and optional features.

    Trim Starting MSRP (est.)
    430i
    $51,775
    430i xDrive
    $53,775
    M440i
    $65,775
    M440i xDrive
    $67,775

While upgrading to the sportier M440i adds significant power, the base 430i is already well-equipped. Standard features include power-adjustable front seats, a sunroof, in-dash navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking sensors, a 14.9-inch infotainment display, and a suite of driver-assistance technologies—making it a strong value for most buyers.

We also recommend the Premium Package, which adds heated front seats, lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, and ambient interior lighting, enhancing comfort and convenience for daily driving.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

    Engines:

    • 255-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four (430i)

    • 386-hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six (M440i)

    Transmission:

    • 8-speed automatic

    Drivetrains:

    • Rear-wheel drive (RWD)

    • All-wheel drive (AWD)

The 2026 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe offers two turbocharged powertrains, both enhanced with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The entry-level 430i features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 255 horsepower, while the M440i steps things up with a thrilling 3.0-liter inline-six delivering 386 horsepower.

An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard across the lineup, with rear-wheel drive as the default and all-wheel drive available as an option. The suspension leans toward the firm side, especially over larger bumps, but that stiffness pays off in sporty handling, making every twisty road an engaging experience.

      0–60 MPH Times

      • C/D 60-mph Test: 3.9 seconds (M440i xDrive)

In our testing, the six-cylinder M440i Gran Coupe proved impressively quick, outpacing competitors like the Genesis G70 3.3T. That said, BMW’s own M340i—its closest 3-Series counterpart—was even faster, hitting 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

      Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

      • EPA City Ratings: 25–27 mpg

      • EPA Highway Ratings: 31–35 mpg

Official EPA fuel economy ratings for the 2026 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe have not yet been released. For reference, the 2025 model achieved up to 27 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined.

We have not yet tested either model on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, but we will update this story with real-world figures once testing is complete. For the latest official numbers, you can visit the EPA’s website.

      Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Front Row: The cabin design is nearly identical to that of the 4-Series coupe and convertible, highlighted by a driver-centric dashboard where the infotainment display and climate controls are slightly angled toward the left. Materials are first-rate, with soft-touch surfaces and premium trim throughout, giving the Gran Coupe a sophisticated look. Still, competitors like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class bring a more dramatic flair to interior design.

Rear Seat: Compared with the two-door versions, the Gran Coupe offers noticeably more rear-seat space, making it the more practical choice for passengers. However, the sloping fastback roofline trims headroom, meaning the more upright 3-Series sedan provides better comfort for taller occupants.

Cargo Capacity: One of the Gran Coupe’s biggest advantages is its hatchback-style trunk, which delivers considerably more cargo space than the coupe or convertible. While we don’t yet have official measurements, the expanded area makes it better suited for road trips, grocery runs, or carrying bulkier items.

        Infotainment and Connectivity

        • Infotainment Display: 14.9-inch touchscreen with digital gauge cluster integration

        • Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

        • Audio Systems: 10-speaker stereo (standard); 16-speaker Harman/Kardon upgrade (optional)

Every Gran Coupe comes equipped with BMW’s impressive curved display, which combines a fully digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen. Running the brand’s latest iDrive 8.5 interface, the system is both visually striking and user-friendly. Standard connectivity features include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, in-dash navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot. The base 10-speaker audio system delivers solid sound, but audiophiles will want to spring for the available 16-speaker Harman/Kardon setup for a richer listening experience.

          Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2026 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe comes well-equipped with standard driver-assistance technologies, including automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. For those who want more advanced features, the available Driving Assistance Professional package adds adaptive cruise control and even a hands-free driving mode for certain conditions.

          • Standard Safety Features: Automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist

          • Optional Safety Features: Adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving capability

          Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

BMW’s warranty coverage for the 4-Series Gran Coupe is on par with most luxury competitors such as Audi and Alfa Romeo. Where it truly stands out is in complimentary scheduled maintenance, which extends longer than what rivals typically provide.

          • Limited Warranty: 4 years / 50,000 miles

          • Powertrain Warranty: 4 years / 50,000 miles

          • Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance: 3 years / 36,000 miles

This added maintenance coverage gives the Gran Coupe an edge in long-term ownership value, making it one of the more appealing choices in the segment.
