2025 Volvo S60 – Overview

The 2025 Volvo S60 is a compact sport sedan with a sleek, sophisticated Scandinavian design that stands out in a market often dominated by sameness. Long known for safety, Volvo now pairs this reputation with style, modern technology, and improved crash-test standards, making driving both safer and more enjoyable.

For the 2025 model year, the S60 is being discontinued in the U.S., largely due to the country’s shift toward SUVs. The final S60 comes in two main configurations:

  • Gasoline: 247-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine (adequate but unremarkable)

  • Plug-in Hybrid: 456 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and 41 miles of electric-only range (starting around $10,000 more than the base model)

While the hybrid offers impressive performance, its higher price limits appeal, which is why competitors like the BMW 3 Series and Genesis G70 are rated more favorably.

When Is the 2025 Volvo S60 Coming Out?

The 2025 Volvo S60 is expected to hit dealerships in late 2024, with production models arriving in select markets shortly afterward. Early reservations are recommended as Volvo’s popularity in the luxury sedan segment continues to grow.

    What’s New for 2025 Volvo S60?

The 2025 model marks the final year for the S60 sedan, available in the base Core and mid-level Plus trims. The previous top-tier Ultimate trim has been rebranded as Ultra, while the plug-in hybrid Recharge is now called the T8 AWD plug-in hybrid (PHEV). This year, Core models gain power-folding headrests, and Ultra models can be equipped with a new Black Edition package, featuring black exterior accents and wheels, available in Onyx Black or Crystal White paint.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The 2025 Volvo S60 starts at $43,795 and climbs to $59,295, depending on trim level and options.

    Trim Starting MSRP (est.)
    Core
    $43,795
    Plus

    Ultra Plug-In Hybrid
    $58,595
    Ultra Black Edition Plug-In Hybrid
    $59,295

While the base Core model may seem appealing due to its lower price, the Plus trim is the sweet spot, offering extra standard features such as leather seats, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera. For drivers in colder climates, the optional Climate Package is highly recommended—it adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and heated windshield washers, keeping you comfortable no matter the weather.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Non-hybrid 2025 Volvo S60 is more of a refined luxury cruiser than a high-octane sports sedan. It comes with a 247-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine, available with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. While the S60 delivers a comfortable and composed ride, it doesn’t offer the same direct connection between driver and road as some of its sportier competitors. In a comparison test against other four-cylinder sedans, the Volvo trailed behind more performance-oriented models like the Alfa Romeo Giulia and BMW 3 Series. The S60 excels at smooth, confident driving rather than outright speed or agility.

      0-60-MPH Times

At our test track, the Non-hybrid 2025 Volvo S60 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, slower than competitors like the BMW 330i (5.2 seconds) and Mercedes-Benz C300 (5.3 seconds). The more powerful plug-in hybrid S60 shaved that time down to 4.1 seconds, yet it still trails the BMW M340i, which reaches 60 mph in a blistering 3.7 seconds.

      Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The Non-hybrid 2025 Volvo S60 delivers fuel efficiency that meets expectations. Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 26 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg combined. All-wheel-drive versions are slightly less efficient, with 25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.

The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version achieves 74 MPGe and 31 mpg when running solely on gasoline. In our real-world testing on a 75-mph fuel-economy route, the PHEV traveled 34 miles using only electric power and averaged 37 mpg overall.

All S60 models require premium unleaded gasoline. For more detailed fuel economy information, visit the EPA’s website.

      Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The 2025 Volvo S60 impresses with its high-quality interior, featuring upscale materials and meticulous attention to detail. Its modern, forward-thinking design includes refined touches such as jeweled switchgear and exceptionally comfortable seats. Deluxe features available include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, ambient lighting, a head-up display, and massaging front seats.

Front-seat passengers enjoy plush, supportive seating, while rear occupants benefit from generous legroom and headroom. Storage is thoughtful, with useful door pockets and a center console featuring a tray with a retractable cover and a bin beneath the armrest, though overall cubby space is somewhat limited. The S60’s trunk accommodates five carry-on suitcases, one fewer than the BMW 3 Series.

        Infotainment and Connectivity

Every 2025 Volvo S60 comes equipped with a tablet-style infotainment system powered by a Google-based interface. The built-in voice assistant performs reliably, and the interface is user-friendly, thanks in part to a physical home button and a large volume knob below the screen. However, like many modern systems, it lacks a dedicated tuning knob. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, while a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system is available as an option.

          Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Volvo’s stylish S60 comes well-equipped with a suite of standard driver-assistance technologies. Key safety features include:

          • Standard Forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking

          • Standard Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert

          • Standard Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist

For detailed crash-test ratings, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

          Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Volvo’s warranty coverage for the S60 aligns closely with other luxury competitors. While its complimentary scheduled maintenance matches BMW duration, it still falls short of Jaguar generous program. Coverage includes:

          • Limited warranty: four years or 50,000 miles

          • Powertrain warranty: four years or 50,000 miles

          • Hybrid components: eight years or 100,000 miles

          • Complimentary maintenance: three years or 36,000 miles
