2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition Revives the Brand’s Off-Road Legacy

“The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition may not be a hardcore rally machine, but it packs a range of practical enhancements.”

Mitsubishi’s legacy in rally racing and off-road adventures—highlighted by the iconic Montero—is well known, but the brand’s recent offerings have leaned more toward the tame side. That changes slightly with the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition. It’s not built to conquer the Dakar Rally, but someone at Mitsubishi clearly wanted to bring a bit of rugged spirit back. The result is an Outlander outfitted with functional off-road gear, making it a more capable companion for your next camping or trail outing.

Based on the SE AWD model, the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition is a distinct trim level priced at $40,890—slotting neatly between the SE AWD ($36,790) and SEL AWD ($41,690). Better yet, it’s more than just a cosmetic upgrade. But let’s start with the visual differences that make it stand out. The Trail Edition gets bold black decals on the hood and body sides, along with a “Trail Edition” badge on the tailgate. Black accents continue across the front and rear bumpers, lower door trim, bumper corners, fender flares, mirror caps, and door handles. Even the typically chrome Dynamic Shield elements have been darkened, and exclusive black basket-weave 18-inch wheels complete the rugged aesthetic.

The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition comes in a range of exterior colors that mostly contrast nicely with its blacked-out trim, including White Diamond, Graphite Grey, and Moonstone Grey. For those seeking an even bolder look, Moonstone Grey and White Diamond can be paired with an optional black roof for a stylish two-tone finish. (Labrador Black Pearl is also available, though it offers less contrast.) Standard features include LED headlights with washers, LED fog lights, and heated windshield wipers—adding both functionality and flair to the Trail Edition’s rugged package.

Inside, the 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition swaps out the standard carpeted floor mats for durable all-weather mats in the front, rear, and cargo areas—each featuring Trail Edition branding. The cargo mat is thoughtfully designed to maintain functionality of the standard third-row seat. A darker theme replaces the typically bright interior, with black synthetic leather and suede seating surfaces that enhance the rugged vibe. Heated front seats add comfort, while five USB-C ports ensure everyone stays charged on the go. Rounding out the cabin upgrades is a Yamaha-designed eight-speaker Dynamic Sound Premium audio system, delivering crisp, immersive sound for all your off-road playlists.

In addition to the standard features, owners can customize their 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Trail Edition with dealer-installed Thule accessories, such as the Caprock flat roof rack and a hitch-mounted bike rack. While the standard tires perform adequately on mild dirt trails, there’s an option to upgrade to Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail AT tires sized 235/60R18. These all-terrain tires share the same outer dimensions as the SE AWD’s 18-inch tires but offer a rugged tread pattern and tougher compound designed to withstand the rigors of trail driving. Compared to the SE AWD’s standard P225/45R20 street tires, the Cooper ATs provide significantly more sidewall protection and off-road capability.
