The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck bold, angular design looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s packed with features to challenge the best-selling pickup trucks. Built with a sharp-edged stainless-steel body, Tesla claims the truck is bulletproof, making it exceptionally durable. The 2024 model offers two all-wheel-drive configurations: a 600-hp Dual Motor version and a powerful Beast model with three electric motors producing 834 horsepower. A single-motor rear-wheel-drive version will be introduced in 2025. Tesla also touts impressive capabilities, claiming the Cybertruck can tow up to 11,000 pounds and offers an estimated range of 340 miles on a full charge. The electric truck’s fast-charging capabilities are equally impressive, with the Tesla Supercharger capable of adding 128 to 136 miles of range in just 15 minutes. The Cybertruck looks ready to redefine the future of utility vehicles.
What’s New for 2024?
For 2024, Tesla is adding a highly anticipated electric pickup truck to its lineup, marking its expansion into one of America’s most popular vehicle categories. However, it will face strong competition from established players like the Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV, and Rivian R1T. Additionally, Chevy is launching its electric Silverado, while the Ram 1500 REV is approaching its production debut. As more automakers embrace the electric truck segment, Tesla will need to prove its Cybertruck stands out among these formidable rivals in a rapidly growing market.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck is priced from $81,985 to $121,985, depending on the trim and options selected.
The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck lineup currently includes the Dual Motor and Beast models, with the rear-wheel-drive version arriving in the next model year starting at $62,985. For those focused on driving range, the Dual Motor model is recommended. It offers slightly better real-world range compared to the Beast and remains impressively fast. While the Beast model provides extra power, the Dual Motor strikes a balance between performance and efficiency, making it a solid choice for most buyers concerned with range and speed.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck will offer three powertrain configurations. Initially, the lineup includes dual-motor and tri-motor all-wheel-drive models, with a rear-wheel-drive single-motor version arriving for the 2025 model year. The Cybertruck Dual Motor delivers 600 horsepower, while the performance-focused Cybertruck Beast is equipped with three motors generating a combined 834 horsepower. All models feature an adjustable air suspension, allowing the ride height to be adjusted on the go, with up to 17 inches of ground clearance. The truck’s impressive 35-degree approach and 28-degree departure angles enhance its off-road capability. Despite its size, the Cybertruck feels surprisingly agile. We tested the Founders Edition Beast, and its combination of rear-wheel steering and a variable-ratio steer-by-wire system made navigating urban environments easier than expected, offering a level of maneuverability not typically found in large pickup trucks. This makes the Cybertruck versatile for both off-road adventures and city driving.
0–60-MPH Times
The 600-hp Dual Motor Cybertruck accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 113 mph. The 834-hp tri-motor Beast, reaching 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, is the quickest truck we’ve ever tested and the fourth-quickest EV overall. It completed the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds at 119 mph. Impressively, both test results align with Tesla’s official claims, showcasing the Cybertruck’s exceptional performance on the road.
Towing and Payload Capacity
The dual- and tri-motor Cybertrucks offer a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds, while the upcoming single-motor model is limited to 7,500 pounds. All Cybertrucks feature a six-by-four-foot composite cargo bed capable of carrying up to 2,500 pounds. These impressive towing and payload capacities make the Cybertruck a highly capable choice for both hauling and towing heavy loads, offering robust utility for a variety of tasks.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The Tesla Cybertruck Beast is powered by a 123.0-kWh battery, which we believe is shared with the Dual Motor model. Tesla claims that the Dual Motor version can add up to 136 miles of range in just 15 minutes when connected to a Supercharger, while the tri-motor Beast model adds 128 miles in the same amount of time. In our tests, it took 50 minutes to charge the Beast’s battery from 10 to 50 percent. The driving range varies depending on the number of motors; Tesla estimates that the Dual Motor can travel up to 340 miles per charge, while the Beast has a range of 301 miles. With an optional range-extender battery pack, these figures rise to over 440 miles for the Dual Motor and 470 miles for the Beast. The upcoming rear-wheel-drive Cybertruck will have an estimated 250-mile range. We tested the Beast on a 75-mph highway route, achieving 250 miles without the range-extender pack.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe
The Tesla Cybertruck Beast, classified as a heavy-duty pickup truck by the EPA, is not required to report fuel economy figures. However, we tested it on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, where it covered 250 miles on a full charge. Tesla estimates a range of 301 miles, meaning the Beast fell 51 miles short of that claim. This discrepancy is similar to other electric trucks we’ve tested, which often underperform in real-world conditions compared to manufacturer estimates. Despite this, the Cybertruck’s performance is still impressive for an electric truck, offering strong range for highway driving.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Tesla Cybertruck’s interior is as minimalistic as its exterior, featuring a spartan cabin that may remind some of the Model 3’s design. Despite the truck’s sharply sloped roofline, there’s surprisingly generous headroom in the rear seats, though taller passengers over six feet may find it a bit tight. During our testing, we found the front trunk (frunk) could hold one carry-on suitcase, while the main interior space held 22 with the rear seats folded down. The Cybertruck’s cargo bed offers 121 cubic feet of storage. Additionally, there’s a hidden compartment beneath the bed floor, providing enough space for another carry-on suitcase. While the interior remains sparse, Tesla maximizes utility with ample storage options, making the Cybertruck practical for those who need both comfort and capacity.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Tesla Cybertruck comes equipped with a large 18.5-inch touchscreen mounted in the center of the dashboard, providing a central hub for infotainment and vehicle controls. In addition, rear-seat passengers enjoy a 9.4-inch touchscreen mounted on the back of the center console. SiriusXM satellite radio is included, along with a Wi-Fi hotspot, enhancing the vehicle’s connectivity. However, drivers seeking Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be disappointed, as Tesla does not offer these features in any of its models. Several promised features for the Cybertruck are not yet available but will be activated through future over-the-air updates. These include controls for locking the front and rear differentials, additional air suspension settings, and more. While Tesla’s infotainment system is advanced, the lack of these widely-used smartphone integration features may be a drawback for some potential buyers looking for broader connectivity options.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The Tesla Cybertruck will offer Autopilot, Tesla’s controversial driving feature, alongside more basic driver-assistance technologies. While crash-test results for the Cybertruck are not yet available, you can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for updates. Key safety features include a range of advanced systems designed to enhance the truck’s overall safety on the road. Tesla aims to provide a combination of innovative technology and traditional safety features, ensuring both convenience and protection for drivers and passengers alike:
- Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Tesla offers a comprehensive warranty for its models, but it does not include complimentary maintenance services.
- Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers eight years or 150,000 miles
- Battery components are covered for eight years or 150,000 miles
