Honda Issues Recall Affecting 260,000 Vehicles Amid Uncertainty

“The brake recall also extends to several Acura models.”

Honda and Acura Recall Over 259,000 Vehicles for Potential Brake Pedal Issue

Not all recalls carry the same weight, but those involving critical safety components demand immediate attention. Honda has issued a major recall affecting 259,033 vehicles, including models from both its Honda brands and Acura brands, due to a potentially serious brake pedal defect.

The recall includes:

According to the automaker, brake pedals in the affected vehicles may loosen, causing them to become misaligned or improperly positioned. This malfunction could impair a driver’s ability to apply the brakes effectively, increasing the risk of a crash.

Drivers experiencing an abnormal brake pedal feel—or noticing the pedal is not where expected—should treat this issue seriously and schedule a service appointment as soon as possible.

What Went Wrong

According to recall documents, the issue stems from a pivot pin that secures the brake pedal in place. During assembly, some pedal assemblies were not properly “staked”, a process meant to secure the pin and prevent it from shifting out of position. If the pin slides out, it can cause the brake pedal to loosen or move out of alignment—compromising braking performance and increasing the risk of an accident.

Honda attributes the brake pedal issue to complications with its parts supplier. Before relocating production from the U.S. to Mexico, the supplier temporarily increased staffing to ramp up inventory. However, many of these workers were less experienced, which may have contributed to assembly errors.

At the same time, technical issues with the QR code tracking system—used to verify parts during production—forced Honda to disable the system temporarily, reducing quality oversight. The combination of inexperienced labor and weakened tracking procedures ultimately led to improperly assembled brake pedal components.

    What Owners Should Do

The silver lining is that, while some reports of loose brake pedals have surfaced, no injuries or accidents have been linked to the issue so far. Honda also notes that the supplier has implemented a camera-based quality control system, helping to minimize the risk of future problems.

Owners of the affected models are encouraged to contact Honda or Acura customer service at 1-888-234-2138 with any questions. The official recall reference codes are FLX (for Honda) and XLY (for Acura).

Repairs will be performed free of charge. Dealership technicians will inspect the brake pedal assemblies, and if a defect is found, they will replace the pedal unit. Dealers have already been notified and are prepared to begin servicing affected vehicles immediately.

Owners are strongly advised to address the recall promptly—even if there are no warning signs, such as a brake warning light or unusual pedal feel. Taking action early can prevent potential safety issues on the road.
