Overview
For more than ten years, the CLA-class has been Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level sedan, and now it’s gearing up for its third generation with refreshed styling and a brand-new hybrid powertrain. This updated model will join an expanding lineup that already includes two new electric CLA versions, which we cover separately. Although Mercedes-Benz hasn’t revealed all the specifics yet, the hybrid 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA is expected to come in at least two trims—likely featuring a front-wheel-drive option and a more powerful all-wheel-drive version. With its sleek new fastback design and advanced hybrid technology, the latest CLA-class aims to compete strongly against rivals like the Audi A3 and BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe in the subcompact luxury segment.
When Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Coming Out?
Mercedes-Benz is set to release the 2026 CLA-Class in the fall of 2025, with dealerships expected to have models available by early 2026. This timeline aligns with Mercedes’ typical schedule for unveiling refreshed or new model years.
What’s New for 2026?
The CLA-class is entering its third generation with significant updates. Mercedes-Benz has created a completely new platform for the upcoming CLA, which will also underpin two compact SUVs and a station-wagon version of the CLA. While the signature egg-shaped fastback design remains, the car now features modernized front and rear styling that creatively incorporates the iconic Mercedes-Benz star into both the headlights and taillights. Under the hood, the hybrid powertrain is all new, pairing a newly engineered turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an updated 48-volt hybrid system. Additionally, the hybrid CLA models will be complemented by two new fully electric CLA variants, set to launch prior to the hybrid versions.
Pricing and Which Model to Choose
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA-class is expected to start at around $47,000, with prices potentially reaching up to $58,000 depending on the chosen trim and optional features. Although official pricing has not yet been announced, the CLA will be available in at least two configurations: a front-wheel-drive model and an all-wheel-drive variant.
-
CLA250: $47,000 (est)
-
CLA350 4Matic: $58,000 (est)
Standard features across all trims include LED headlights, power-folding and heated exterior mirrors, a panoramic glass roof, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 4-way adjustable heated front seats. We will update this story with more pricing and trim details as they become available.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2026 Mercedes CLA will feature a new turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt hybrid system. Although full details on the powertrain are still forthcoming, Mercedes has confirmed that the CLA hybrid will be available with two different power levels and offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations. The hybrid setup includes a 1.3-kWh battery and a 27-horsepower electric motor integrated into an updated version of Mercedes’ eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This electrified transmission can disengage from the engine, enabling brief driving on electric power alone. During a recent test drive of a pre-production prototype, we observed a smooth transition between gasoline and electric power, along with an electronic braking system that provided strong, consistent stopping performance. We will share further driving impressions after testing a production-ready model.
0–60 MPH Times
Mercedes has not yet released official zero-to-60 mph figures for the CLA hybrid. However, they do state that the most powerful electric version can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Since the hybrid model is expected to have significantly less power than the fully electric variant, it’s likely the CLA hybrid will take closer to around 6.0 seconds to reach 60 mph.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA has not yet published fuel economy ratings for the new CLA-class hybrid. We will update this article once official EPA numbers are available and after we conduct our 75-mph highway fuel economy test with the CLA.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the CLA combines cutting-edge design with refined luxury. The front cabin is highlighted by a large digital gauge cluster and a prominent infotainment screen, while brushed aluminum accents and soft leather upholstery add a touch of sophistication. Thanks to the CLA’s slightly increased exterior dimensions, the interior now provides a bit more legroom and headroom compared to the previous model.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Technology takes center stage in the new CLA’s cabin, where the dashboard is almost entirely digital. Standard equipment includes a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 14-inch central touchscreen for infotainment. For those seeking even more tech, Mercedes offers the optional MBUX Superscreen—a sprawling display that adds a 14-inch passenger touchscreen alongside the existing setup. The CLA’s infotainment, navigation, and driver assistance systems run on Mercedes’ latest MB.OS platform, which supports features such as over-the-air software updates and an AI-powered virtual assistant.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The CLA comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technologies as standard, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking. For detailed crash-test results, you can refer to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features expected on the CLA include:
-
Automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection
-
Lane-departure warning paired with lane-keeping assist
-
Adaptive cruise control with lane-centering capability (available option)
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
The Mercedes-Benz CLA-class offers warranty coverage comparable to its rivals like BMW and Audi. This includes:
-
A limited warranty valid for four years or 50,000 miles
-
A powertrain warranty covering four years or 50,000 miles
-
No complimentary scheduled maintenance included
