Genesis Embraces a Sinister Edge in New Trim Package

The Prestige Black trim, offered on the G80, G90, and GV80 models, adds sleek gloss black exterior details, wheels, and interior accents to elevate the luxury collection.

Genesis is stepping into the sleek, darkened styling game with its new Prestige Black trim, joining rivals like Audi’s Black Optic and Mercedes’ AMG Night packages. This new trim will be available on the G80 and G90 sedans, as well as the GV80 in both Coupe and SUV versions. Staying true to its flagship luxury features, the Prestige Black adds gloss black exterior accents and wheels, dark interior trim, and black chrome details on the exterior. Known for its classic luxury touches—such as warm wood finishes and detailed chrome—the brand’s move toward this “murdered-out” aesthetic will be interesting to watch as it challenges its traditional style and customer preferences.

The Package’s Bold (and Black) Details

Whichever Genesis model you pick, the Prestige Black trim features darkened inner headlight bezels and black brake calipers. Gloss black finishes extend to window moldings, door handle accents, the radiator grille surround, front and rear bumper accents, and rocker panel trim. Additionally, a dark chrome finish highlights the grille mesh, front emblem, and rear “GENESIS” lettering. For the GV80 Prestige Black SUV, the roof rails are also finished in gloss black, completing the all-black look.

Inside, each model features a unified monochromatic theme with Obsidian Nappa leather upholstery and dark-stained ash wood trim, complemented by dark-finished switchgear and black anodized speaker grilles. However, the G90 flagship distinguishes itself with subtle enhancements: its open-pore wood trim includes a geometric bronze inlay that reflects the “G-matrix” grille pattern, and instead of the full-grain leather used in other Prestige Black models, the G90 boasts luxurious semi-aniline Nappa leather.

The gloss black wheels tie the Prestige Black lineup together, though each model features distinct sizes and designs. The G80 Prestige Black rolls on 20-inch wheels with a sharp double-five-spoke pattern, while the G90 Prestige Black sports 21-inch alloys featuring a dynamic throwing-star style. The GV80 Prestige Black SUV comes with 22-inch wheels showcasing five triangular spokes, and the GV80 Coupe’s 22-inch wheels offer a more intricate mesh-like design. These unique wheel styles perfectly complement each vehicle’s position within the lineup.

Are Buyers Ready for Blacked-Out Genesis Models?

The 2026 Genesis G80 Prestige Black kicks off at $79,350, with the larger G90 Prestige Black priced at $105,750. The GV80 Prestige Black starts at $83,250, while the GV80 Prestige Black Coupe comes in at $89,400. Customers looking to customize their blacked-out Genesis only need to choose their preferred model and color, as all trims are offered exclusively in either pearlescent Uyuni White or metallic Vik Black.

While this writer isn’t typically a fan of blackout appearance packages, they seem even less fitting for Genesis vehicles. The South Korean luxury brand has built its reputation on a refined, old-world interpretation of premium luxury, making the Prestige Black trim feel somewhat like a passing trend rather than a natural fit. That said, this dark-finished trim has been available in Genesis’ home market for over a year, indicating the style has gained enough popularity to justify its introduction to the North American lineup.
