2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class – Overview

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class SUV delivers the brand’s signature luxury in a well-crafted compact package. Powered by a 221-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, it offers sufficient power for everyday driving. Inside, the cabin is tech-forward, stylish, and comfortable, though not especially spacious. Size-wise, the GLA matches competitors like the Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40, both of which include more advanced driver-assistance features as standard, while Mercedes requires buyers to pay extra for some of these safety technologies.

The GLA offers a balanced and composed ride with comfortable handling, though rivals such as the BMW X1 and X2 provide a more engaging driving experience. For those seeking more room, the Mercedes GLB-Class builds on the GLA’s platform but features a taller, more spacious design. Enthusiasts craving performance might prefer the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35, reviewed separately. Overall, the GLA remains an appealing choice for buyers looking for a stylish, feature-rich, and premium compact luxury SUV.

    What’s New for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class?

For the 2025 model year, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class introduces a small but welcome update: the 360-degree exterior camera system is now available as a standalone option, giving buyers more flexibility when choosing features. Aside from this change, the GLA remains largely unchanged from the previous year, continuing to offer the same stylish design, performance, and technology that have made it popular in the compact luxury SUV segment.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class starts at $42,400 and can reach up to $45,350, depending on the chosen trim level and additional options.

    Trim Starting MSRP (est.)
    GLA250 Pinnacle
    $42,400
    GLA 250
    $44,150
    GLA250 Exclusive
    $45,350

While most buyers of the GLA 250 are unlikely to tackle serious off-road trails, upgrading to the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive model for an extra $2,000 offers more than just improved traction. This version includes the Off-Road Engineering package as standard, which features an off-road driving mode that softens throttle response and adjusts power delivery—handy for challenging conditions like deep snow or rough terrain.

For most shoppers, the mid-level Exclusive trim represents the best value, adding desirable upgrades such as an augmented-reality navigation system, a premium sound system, and illuminated doorsill plates, enhancing both convenience and luxury.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 221 horsepower, complemented by a mild hybrid system to enhance efficiency and smoothness. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to either the front wheels or all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

While official performance numbers with the updated hybrid technology are not yet available, expectations are that acceleration and overall driving dynamics will remain consistent with previous models. The GLA 250 isn’t designed as a high-performance SUV, but it delivers composed handling and a suspension setup that comfortably absorbs rough road surfaces without sacrificing refinement. It strikes a good balance between everyday usability and a confident driving experience.

      0–60-MPH Times

During our testing, the all-wheel-drive GLA 250 4MATIC from the previous model year achieved a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.3 seconds. While this acceleration is adequate for everyday driving, it falls short compared to many electric SUVs that deliver quicker launches. Interestingly, this figure is slightly slower than the last-generation GLA, which managed a 0–60 mph sprint in 5.7 seconds under similar conditions.

      Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA estimates the front-wheel-drive GLA 250 achieves fuel economy ratings of 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive GLA 250 4MATIC posts slightly lower numbers, with estimates of 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Although we haven’t yet conducted our own 200-mile highway fuel-economy test on the updated GLA 250, we plan to update this review with real-world results once testing is complete. For the latest official fuel economy ratings and additional details, you can also visit the EPA’s website.

      Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

A major criticism of the previous-generation GLA-Class was its cramped interior, but Mercedes addressed this issue with the current model. Rear-seat passengers now benefit from nearly five additional inches of legroom, along with increased shoulder and elbow space, bringing the GLA’s cabin dimensions more in line with competitors like the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Volvo XC40.

The interior boasts upscale materials and a thoughtfully designed layout reminiscent of the larger GLB-Class. Controls are intuitively placed, featuring a column-mounted gear shifter, a center-console infotainment controller, and distinctive circular air vents that line the dashboard, creating a refined and functional environment.

Cargo capacity is practical for the segment, with a cargo floor that sits flush with the rear sill, making it easier to load and unload bulky items. During testing, the GLA 250 accommodated six carry-on suitcases behind the rear seats, demonstrating its versatility for everyday hauling needs.

        Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class comes standard with two 10.3-inch displays—one serving as the digital instrument cluster for the driver, and the other dedicated to the infotainment system. This refined dual-screen setup has been introduced across the Mercedes lineup and has received mixed feedback from reviewers.

Drivers can interact with the system in multiple ways: through the responsive touchscreen, voice commands activated by saying “Hey Mercedes,” or the touchpad controller located on the center console. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, ensuring seamless smartphone integration.

Additional available features include built-in navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, a head-up display that projects key information onto the windshield, and the optional Burmester premium audio system, which delivers an immersive listening experience for audiophiles.

          Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class comes standard with automated emergency braking and high-beam assist to help keep drivers safe on the road. However, more advanced driver-assistance technologies—such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist—are available only through the optional Driver Assistance package.

          Key safety features include:

          • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection

          • Available lane-departure warning paired with lane-keeping assist

          • Available adaptive cruise control featuring lane-centering capability

For detailed crash-test ratings and safety performance, prospective buyers can consult the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

          Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Mercedes-Benz provides a standard warranty package for the 2025 GLA-Class that covers four years or 50,000 miles, which includes both limited and powertrain warranties. While this coverage is competitive, some rivals like the Lexus NX offer longer warranty periods, and brands such as BMW and Volvo include complimentary scheduled maintenance for extended durations—benefits not currently available with the GLA.

          • Limited warranty: 4 years or 50,000 miles

          • Powertrain warranty: 4 years or 50,000 miles

          • Complimentary scheduled maintenance: Not included

          Final Verdict

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class remains one of the best choices in the compact luxury SUV segment, blending stylish design, a comfortable and tech-forward interior, and capable performance. The mild-hybrid system adds an edge in efficiency without sacrificing the driving experience. The AMG variants add genuine sportiness and excitement for enthusiasts.

While the rear seat space may feel a bit tight for some and cargo capacity is average, the GLA’s premium features and brand prestige make it a compelling option for urban drivers and small families alike. With excellent safety features and an appealing warranty and maintenance plan, the 2025 GLA is worth serious consideration.
