McLaren Returns to Le Mans Glory with 2027 Top-Class Comeback

"The iconic British automaker and legendary racing team has unveiled an exclusive offering sure to ignite competition among the ultra-wealthy."

It’s been 30 years since McLaren etched its name in motorsport history by winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Indianapolis 500, and the Monaco Grand Prix—collectively known as the Triple Crown of Motorsport. To this day, it remains the only automaker to accomplish this feat. Now, with eyes set on a return to Le Mans in 2027, McLaren is aiming to replicate that legendary success—and this time, it’s inviting customers to join in, offering what may be the ultimate status symbol in racing.

Dubbed Project: Endurance, McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing are teaming up to offer an extraordinarily exclusive opportunity—a chance for a select few to own a genuine McLaren Le Mans Hypercar. This isn’t a dressed-up McLaren W1 or even a bespoke 750S with unique badging. Instead, it’s a road-going machine derived directly from the LMDh prototype that will battle in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship.

    An Ultra-Exclusive Offering for Customers

Mirroring its race-bred counterpart, the Project: Endurance hypercar will feature a rear-wheel-drive, twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain crafted in collaboration with Dallara — McLaren’s trusted chassis partner and the exclusive constructor for IndyCar. Beyond owning a hypercar engineered alongside the official race car, customers will enjoy unparalleled, behind-the-scenes access to McLaren’s racing program. Now that’s what you call exclusivity.

“McLaren Racing’s comeback to the FIA World Endurance Championship signals the start of an exciting new era for us,” said a company representative. “With a proud legacy alongside McLaren Automotive, including our victorious debut at Le Mans in 1995, this customer program provides an extraordinary opportunity for buyers to own a genuine race car and experience the thrill of the track up close.”

Dedicated Professional Coaching, Pit Crew, and Race Engineers

This exclusive customer program offers owners the unique opportunity to be deeply involved in the LMDh’s testing and development phases, working closely with engineers, team personnel, and drivers. Additionally, participants will enjoy a two-year McLaren-managed track driving experience at premier circuits worldwide. The package includes professional driver coaching, dedicated pit crew and race engineers, and comprehensive support at every event — all provided with an effortless arrive-and-drive setup.

McLaren has yet to reveal the exact price or the number of units available for the exclusive Project: Endurance hypercar. However, it will be offered to “a select few,” clearly targeting affluent clients, likely those already within McLaren’s elite customer base—much like Ferrari’s renowned FXX program. More details are expected to emerge as McLaren advances this ambitious project in the coming years.
