2025 BMW i4 Gran Coupe First Look: at the Electrified Elegance
With brisk acceleration and nimble handling, this could be the sweet spot in BMW’s EV lineup.
The 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe lineup receives a refresh with the addition of mild-hybrid technology under the hood. However, the latest i4 Gran Coupe line only benefits from style updates both inside and outside. The 2025 BMW i4 Gran Coupe lineup will be available in four different flavors. These range from the entry-level model with 281 horsepower to the M50 version, which has 536 hp and can reach 60 mph in 3.7 second. These powertrains are so good that they’re actually the best option in the BMW four-door lineup. The latest i4 Gran Coupes are a continuation of the electric drive for BMW. They have been updated with new exterior lighting and some interior improvements.
When is the 2025 BMW i4 Gran Coupe coming out?
BMW has not yet announced a release date for its 2025 BMW i4 Gran Coupe, but production is expected to begin in July of 2024. The 2025 i4 should be available in American dealerships at the end or beginning of 2025.
BMW i4 Gran Coupe Price Estimate and Competition
We haven’t confirmed the price yet for the 2025 BMW i4 Gran Coupe, but since the changes are limited to interior technology and aesthetics we don’t anticipate a significant increase. Starting MSRP for current models is $52,200. The eDrive35 base model costs that amount, while the eDrive50 sells for $57.300. The xDrive40 breaks through the $60k mark with a price of $61,600. And the most potent i4M50 is priced at $69,700. In 2025, entry-level models will cost about $54k while top trims are likely to be more than $71k.
Audi and Mercedes-Benz do not yet offer an electric version of the A4/A5 Sportback, or C-Class. This leaves the i4 with a rather eclectic group of competitors. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 Has a different, swoopy style and is cheaper. In fact, the top-end Limited trim has just 320 hp and costs less than a base i4. It is obvious that the Tesla Model 3 With the, you can enjoy a high-quality performance for a fraction the price. 510-hp Model 3 Performance Prices starting at just $52,990
New BMW i4 Gran Coupe Exterior and Colors
Changes to the exterior of the BMW i4 Gran Coupe are subtle, with new colors headlining these updates. Vegas Red and Cape York Green have been added to the palette for 2025. There are changes to the front fascia, which include a revised version of the controversial full-height grille with a matte-chrome surround, of which the upper section is blanked off and comprises a gloss-black surface topped with a honeycomb pattern in matte silver.
The M Sport package includes a front apron that is unique, with two air intakes either side. It also adds a gloss black rear diffuser. The M50 high-performance trim features a grille featuring horizontal slats and an M logo. It also has a gloss-black grille surround, apron, and grille trim. New 19- and 20-inch M Aero two-color wheels become available, and buyers can option the M Carbon package, which replaces the mirror caps, rear diffuser insert, rear decklid spoiler, and the side air-intake trim with items made from CFRP (carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic).
BMW i4 Gran Coupe’s exterior lighting has been redesigned. The new headlights are slimmer and use the same LED module to power both low beams and high beams. They also feature welcome lights, arrow-shaped DRLs and turn signals. The Shadowline package includes adaptive LED headlights that are standard for the M50 trim. They are optional for the other trims. The package includes new Laserlight Taillights, which use illuminated glass fiber bundles to create a three-dimensional effect.
0–60-MPH Times
In C/D testing, the M50 hit 60 mph in a remarkable 3.3 seconds, which is quicker than a rear-drive M3 Competition. Off the pace slightly is the xDrive40, our long-term model with the M Sport package (19-inch summer rubber, plus a racy steering wheel and aluminum cabin trim) hit sixty mph in a still sprightly 4.4 seconds.
BMW i4 Gran Coupe Dimensions
BMW i4 Gran Coupe dimensions are unlikely to change significantly, but there may be a few millimeters difference in length because of changes in the front styling. The same measurements are expected to be carried over to 2024. This includes the curb weights which range between 4,553 lbs on the base models and 5,018 pounds at the top. If there are differences, they will be minor.

2025 BMW i4 Gran Coupe Powertrain and Performance
The single rear-mounted electric motor of the base BMW i4 Gran Coupe eDrive35 produces 282 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-60 sprint in 5.8 seconds, while the more powerful setup in the eDrive40’s figures are 335 hp and 317 lb-ft, respectively, dropping the sprint to 5.4 seconds; both are RWD and have a top speed of 118 mph. The xDrive40 adds a front motor for AWD capability and is also more powerful, with 396 hp and 443 lb-ft on tap, so it gets to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and reaches 124 mph.
The most impressive specs belong to the AWD dual-motor M50, which has 469 hp and 538 lb-ft, which can be increased temporarily via a boost mode to 536 hp and 586 lb-ft. It dispatches the benchmark sprint in 3.7 seconds and reaches 130 mph. All powertrains use a fixed-ratio e-speed transmission.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
With no changes to the powertrain, the range, charging, and battery life of the 2025 BMW i4 Gran Coupe lineup will carry over; it’s worth noting that range and efficiency is dependent on wheel size, with larger wheels negatively affecting these figures. We’ll use the best-case scenario here, with the 18-inch wheels.

BMW i4 Gran Coupe Interior and Cargo
The interior of the BMW i4 Gran Coupe is mostly as before, but there are a few updates, most noticeably a brand-new two-spoke steering wheel with a polygonal rim and illuminated steering-wheel controls. The M Sport kit fits a three-spoke flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with a black center stripe at 12 o’ clock; this same steering wheel is standard on the M50 but with tri-color stitching and a red center stripe. Additional interior trim options become available for 2025, notably Grey Blue Ash and Fineline Light wood trims and M Fine brushed aluminum. The BMW i4 Gran Coupe’s seats are upholstered in SensaTec leatherette, but Vernasca leather is available and comes with an additional color scheme this year – black with red highlighting.
The range gets access to Live Cockpit Plus, which allows you to overlay augmented-reality camera footage onto the navigation display for more easily negotiating intersections. A six-speaker audio system is standard on the three base trims and a 10-speaker arrangement on the M50, but either can be upgraded to a 17-speaker Harman Kardon setup.
There are seats for five inside the BMW i4 Gran Coupe, with the second row understandably restrictive in terms of legroom (34.2 inches) and headroom (36.6 inches) to comfortably accommodate adults of average size. The BMW i4 Gran Coupe’s trunk space is limited, with a mere 10 cubic feet available behind the second row – substantially less than the gas-powered car’s 16.6 cu-ft. Cargo space can be expanded to 45.6 cubes with the second row folded flat – strangely, the same as the gas 4 Series Gran Coupe.
