2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe – Overview

BMW has long been synonymous with sports sedans, thanks to the 3-Series’ decades of dominance. For those seeking a style upgrade, the 2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe delivers just that—without sacrificing the spirited driving experience the 3-Series is known for. Its sleek fastback roofline not only adds visual flair but also cleverly hides a larger cargo area and rear hatch, making the step up both practical and stylish.

Under the hood, a 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder comes standard, available with rear- or all-wheel drive. The M440i model, however, steals the spotlight with a robust 386-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. Inside, the cabin is highlighted by a high-tech curved display, set against an otherwise understated interior, though many buyers will likely be more captivated by the Gran Coupe’s agile handling.

Its lively driving dynamics are genuinely fun, outmatching rivals like the Acura TLX, Audi A5 Sportback, and Volvo S60. For those seeking the ultimate performance experience, BMW still offers the four-door M3 and two-door M4, both packing even more potent twin-turbo variants of the M440i’s inline-six engine.

What’s New for 2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe?

The 2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe receives subtle but meaningful updates. On the exterior, it now features slimmer headlamps, a redesigned grille with matte chrome accents, a restyled rear bumper with larger exhaust outlets, new paint options, and refreshed wheel designs. Inside, the iDrive infotainment system has been refined for improved usability with a less dense menu layout. The previous three-spoke steering wheel has been replaced with a sleek two-spoke design, while the M Sport package adds a flat-bottomed three-spoke wheel.

Under the hood, both the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the 430i and the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six in the M440i gain a new 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The 430i maintains its 255 hp, while the M440i sees an 11-hp boost, bringing it to 386 hp. For those interested in a more electrified option, the similarly styled BMW i4 also receives many of these 2025 updates.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The 2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe starts at $50,825 and climbs to $66,575, depending on trim and options.

    Trim Starting MSRP (est.)
    430i
    $50,825
    430i xDrive
    $52,825
    M440i
    $64,575
    M440i xDrive

While the M440i delivers exhilarating performance, its higher price tag makes the base 430i our recommended choice. It comes well-equipped with power front seats, a sunroof, in-dash navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking sensors, a 14.9-inch infotainment display, and a suite of driver-assistance features. For added comfort and convenience, the Premium Package is worth considering—it adds heated front seats, lumbar support, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, and ambient interior lighting.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The 2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe offers two turbocharged engines, both paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The base 430i features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 255 hp, while the M440i boasts a robust 386-hp 3.0-liter inline-six. Both engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available as an option.

The Gran Coupe’s suspension leans toward the firm side, especially over rough roads, but the tradeoff is highly responsive, agile handling that makes winding roads genuinely enjoyable. Whether navigating curves or powering down straightaways, the driving experience is engaging and fun.

      0–60-MPH Times

While we haven’t yet tested the 2025 430i Gran Coupe, a 2022 M440i managed 0–60 mph in just 3.9 seconds on our test track. With the slight horsepower increase for 2025, the M440i could be even quicker. We’ll update this review with official 2025 0–60 figures once testing is complete.

      Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA rates the 2025 430i Gran Coupe with its four-cylinder engine at 27 mpg city and 35 mpg highway. Opting for all-wheel drive drops the highway rating slightly to 34 mpg for the 430i xDrive. The six-cylinder M440i achieves 26 mpg city and 31 mpg highway, while the M440i xDrive sees 25 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

We haven’t yet tested either model on our 75-mph highway route, but we’ll update this review with real-world MPG figures once available. For full official fuel economy information, visit the EPA’s website.

      Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The 2025 BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe cabin closely mirrors the coupe and convertible, featuring a driver-focused dashboard with climate controls and the infotainment display slightly angled toward the driver. Materials feel premium throughout, though rivals like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class offer more visually striking interiors.

The rear seats are roomier than the two-door 4-Series, though headroom is a bit tight due to the fastback roofline. The Gran Coupe’s trunk provides significantly more cargo space than its two-door siblings, making it practical for luggage, groceries, and everyday items—exact capacity figures will be confirmed once we test a model in person.
